What is It?
Under Cheramy Story Arts and Marketing, the website for The Lighthouse Ministries was created to update their overall web presence and appeal. My part of the project included designing and creating the layout of their website and redesigning their logo, with feedback and direction from the studio director. The project was completed and launched in 6 months.
Project goals
Create a multi-page website for the client to freshen and update their appeal to investors and donors alike. Those who are curious about their mission can also explore their webpage and learn more, as well as contact the ministry and learn about the members.
The webpage needed to be modern and clean design, with a color palette that reflected being in Belize, and many images so the user could visually see what the ministry is doing to help the people of Belize. There needed to be prominent buttons for donations, a menu with clear navigation, and a design that kept the users engaged. Avada Website Builder for WordPress was decided, with the “Hotel and Resort” being what we felt was the best suited for the needs of the client.
UX/UI Process
Lean UX documentation was utilized, with a style sheet of selected fonts, font sizes, colors, and logo designs. After approval, wireframes, low-fidelity, and high-fidelity prototypes were created and sent to the client for review.
Site Map
For the client to better understand how pages were linked the way they were, a site map was made and explained to the client. Furthermore, it helped the client see where there could be potential for missed linked pages or misdirection. As a designer, it gave me a solid layout to refer back to and stay on track.
Wireframes
Rather than present all the wireframe pages to the client and run into the potential to confuse, they were shown the homepage with all their required elements in a high-fidelity prototype. It showed approximately what to expect with their webpage design other pages, with changes being applied on the pages needs.
Website Design
Once all the design aspects were approved from the client, myself and the director decided to use the “Hotel and Resort” template from Avada, with the site being built on WordPress.

Based on feedback, the webpage was built satisfactorily and within the requirements set by the client. The director stated that the client was impressed with the design and grateful. I was able to provide a one on one training call with the client to go over the site and direct them on how to navigate their page, as well as create a manual that gave written instruction with images for reference. The manual also serves as a reference for other designers in the studio.

The experience of creating my first site in studio and solely focusing on the design aspect of the web design was extremely rewarding. Having the support of the director and another coworker helped me create the site with confidence, but I was able to use my knowledge of CSS and HTML to be able to go in the backend of the site and fix things as needed.
The biggest challenge of the project was having communication being prompt from the client. Being as there were other things the client had to focus on, the pace of the build was fairly casual. Messaging on a centralized platform helped to send messages that everyone could see, so there was no confusion from either party, but sometimes wait times for replies was a bit long.
